
The club’s senior instructor is Dave Hammond, Yodan, the founder of Dundee Ippon Judo Club. Dave has been practicing and studying Judo since 1981 and is a former national competitor in both shiai (contest) and kata (forms). He is qualified to FPJII level with the BJC and a level one coaching examiner with Judo For All (UK). Dave is also a exponent of several judo kata, for which he received expert tuition under Mr. G R Mealing, 7th Dan. His early judo training was under the tutelage of Charlie Clarke, a direct pupil of Abbe Sensei and much of his present Judo is based on the style and philosophy of Kyu-shin-do. Dave has travelled across the UK for judo training and has received tuition from many masters of the art including Akinori Hosaka, Yorikyu Yamamoto, Ju Konno, Neil Adams, Ray Stevens and Sampson Sampson.
